Strategic Planning

Licking Valley Local School District

We began our work with Licking Valley Local Schools by learning about the district’s mission, vision, and core values. Our team spent extensive time firstly with the district’s leadership and Board of Education (BOE) to understand the current standing of the district and its future vision and goals. Then, our team led a multi-phase engagement process with community members, administrators, staff members, students, and parents to inform and nail down the district’s most pressing needs.

Through our collaborative partnership, The Impact Group and Licking Valley Local Schools came together to create a comprehensive strategic plan that reflects the district’s priorities in alignment with its mission and vision.

Challenge

Like many school districts, Licking Valley Local Schools faced a significant challenge in strategic planning, having never previously developed a formal strategic plan.

Recognizing this gap, the superintendent emphasized the necessity of establishing and communicating clear goals in collaboration with the BOE. To ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach, the superintendent strongly advocated for actively engaging the community, along with staff, administrators, and students, in formulating the district’s goals and objectives for the upcoming 3-5 years.

This inclusive strategy aimed to harness diverse perspectives and foster a sense of shared responsibility and commitment to the district’s future.

Solution

Working closely together, The Impact Group and Licking Valley Local Schools administered an extensive online survey and conducted multiple focus groups. The survey received an impressive 902 responses from parents, community members, and staff, which was a crucial step in understanding the community’s priorities. It featured 47 questions covering various topics such as academic achievement, communication strategies, student programming, facilities, and district culture.

In addition to the survey, the district organized nine focus groups with 202 participants, including staff, students, parents, and community members. These discussions provided valuable insights into the district’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, focusing on areas such as safety concerns, extracurricular programs, and communication efforts.

The diverse feedback gathered through these methods will inform the development of a well-rounded and community-driven strategic plan, reflecting the shared values and aspirations of the Licking Valley Local Schools community.

“I strongly recommend that a district consider the Impact Group for their strategic planning needs.  Lori and her team did an excellent job of acquiring stakeholder feedback to formulate an accurate perspective of the needs and aspirations of our district.  They were able to take that perspective and develop meaningful, measurable goals and objectives that were supported by data.”
