Overview
We began our work with Perry Local School District by learning about its mission, vision, strategic plan, core values, existing brand, and most important needs. Our team spent extensive time understanding the platforms and ways in which the district communicates with its stakeholders while further developing what information was desired and needed to achieve the communication goals of the district.
Through our strategic partnership, The Impact Group and Perry Local School District came together with a comprehensive communication plan to articulate the district’s priorities across various platforms.
Challenge
In March 2020, Perry Local Schools passed a bond issue to fund the construction of new elementary school buildings within the district. The construction process began during the COVID-19 pandemic, limiting in-person interactions and affecting labor and construction equipment availability. Because the construction of the new buildings would take the old buildings offline – moving the district from five to three elementary buildings – redistricting and staff building assignments required significant preparation, planning and communication to ensure the transition to the new buildings in the fall of 2024 would be smooth.
Solution
The Perry Local School District prioritized sharing construction updates with all stakeholders on an ongoing basis to inform the community of progress towards completion, as well as the benefits the new buildings will provide the district. From a dedicated webpage on the district site that is updated regularly with photos, videos and FAQs to onsite events like building tours, the district has intentionally kept the building construction progress information available to all students, staff, families and community members.
Impact
Through the implementation of the strategic communications model, Perry Local School District has been able to establish consistent communication with stakeholders regarding the construction progress through the district website, social media channels, internal and external newsletters, and local media.
Strategic communications have had an especially positive impact on internal stakeholders, including staff and district families. The district has included regular updates in their monthly staff newsletter to keep staff informed of changes in preparation for the move into the new buildings. Intentional and timely communications about student-building assignments helped prepare the district’s youngest learners to transition into their new buildings.
Our Model is designed to help.
We understand the unique challenges faced by school districts. In an age where information is disseminated through various channels and at an unprecedented speed, it can be overwhelming to manage and streamline communication effectively.
Our model is designed to help districts develop and implement a robust communication plan that aligns with their goals and resonates with their audiences.
While every district has it’s own culture, many organizations grapple with similar challenges. But, with The Impact Group’s strategic approach to communication, these challenges can be transformed into opportunities for connection and engagement with the community they serve.
