Making an IMPACT: September 2024

Published On: September 2nd, 2024

With Labor Day now behind us, it’s hard not to think of Kenny Chesney’s “The Boys of Fall.” Even if we’re not feeling the chill in the air, those cleats and helmets are back on, school is in session, and the first Friday night home game is already in the books. For many of us, this marks a shift in the season (even if unofficial) to a time of busy evenings, sports, after-school events, and the return to regular schedules.

As a leader, you know how quickly busy schedules can take a toll on your health and impact your capacity to lead, which is why self-care is so important. During our August webinar, we focused on finding ways to make small changes that can have a lasting impact as you navigate challenges through the rest of 2024—and the simplest tip was to ask yourself what you need. Whether it’s the thrill of a Friday night football game with your family or a brisk walk on a fall morning to clear your mind, we hope you find moments to take care of yourself.

Sincerely,
The Impact Group Team

Effective Financial Communication for School Districts: Best Practices for Levies

As the new school year kicks off, many school districts find themselves facing the challenging task of communicating about finances and the potential impact on taxpayers. These communications typically involve topics such as the five-year forecast, the potential need for facilities or other capital improvements, and funding challenges in light of the expiration of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Programs (ESSER) funding, often resulting in a levy being placed on the ballot for taxpayer vote.

To navigate these complex topics effectively, districts must adhere to factual information while employing strategic communications best practices. But as a school district, where do you begin?

Check out this three-part series, in which we share a detailed guide for school districts to enhance their financial communication based on the strategic communications model.
